How To Stay Up To Date With Digital Nomad News | Kristin Wilson

Digital Nomad News is a new weekly show about trending topics in technology, remote work, and travel. The show is hosted by Kristin Wilson, a Nomad Summit speaker and digital nomad travel and relocation specialist.


The first episode of Digital Nomad News covered five stories impacting location-independent entrepreneurs and remote workers: 

1. Lithuania Announces a New E-Residency Program

In 2014, Estonia became the first country to launch an e-Residency program, which allows digital entrepreneurs from anywhere in the world to set up a company remotely, complete with a bank account and a Tax ID Number. In July, the Lithuanian parliament approved a similar program for digital nomads that will go into effect in 2021.

2. SafetyWing Travel Medical Insurance Company for Digital Nomads Raises $3.5M Seed Round

Finding affordable and comprehensive travel and medical coverage has long been a challenge for digital nomads. Until now, that is, with companies like SafetyWing and World Nomads offering more options than ever before. SafetyWing raised $3.5M in August to help them achieve their goal of providing a “social safety net” for traveling digital nomads. Coverage starts at $37 per four weeks.

3. Nomad List 5.0 Launches with New Design and Features

Pieter Levels released a new version of his digital nomad travel portal, Nomad List, on its 5-year anniversary. Upgrades include redesigned travel profiles, a “where I’ve been” map, new search filters, and a built-in matchmaking app with a chat feature.

4. Google Trips App Goes Extinct 🙁 

Google canceled their Trips App on August 5, but you can now organize your travels using a Google Trips feature within Google Maps.

5. How Becoming a Digital Nomad Can Help Prepare You for Workforce Automation

Up to 40% of jobs could be affected by Artificial Intelligence in the next 15 years, but yours doesn’t have to be one of them. Kristin discusses three strategies for protecting yourself from the threat of workplace automation in this episode of Badass Digital Nomads podcast.
