Dr. Kaisu Koskela

Independent scholar and policy advocate

Dr. Kaisu Koskela is an independent scholar, anthropologist, and policy advocate. Her academic research focuses on digital nomadism and other emerging forms of remote work mobility, and on how governments are responding to these novel mobility trends. Kaisu is also a long-term (digital) nomad herself, having left her home region of Arctic Finland in the mid-90s to travel and work in many industries—from hospitality to hairdressing to education—before focusing on academic research. Her policy work and her public speaking engagements are driven by a vision of a future where location independence and equal mobility rights are accessible to all, regarless of passport strength. She also stresses the need to design policies that will channel digital nomadism to produce positive impacts on receiving locations, setting it apart from the detrimental aspects of uncontrolled mass tourism.
